This is the 11th high-budget film produced by Sony featuring Peter Parker, including two animated features. According to estimates, the film earned an additional $550 million from international ticket sales, bringing the total three-day revenue to approximately $875 million. For comparison, Sony spent an estimated $225 million on production, excluding marketing costs.
The New York Times reported that the film achieved significant success among Generation Z, specifically viewers aged 14 to 29. This popularity is largely attributed to the casting of stars like Tom Holland and Zendaya. The film has also garnered positive reviews, a rarity for superhero movies at a time when general audience interest in the genre has seen a sharp decline.
The last major high-budget superhero film to hit screens was "Superman" last summer. Meanwhile, "The Odyssey," which has dominated the box office for the past three weeks, grossed another $14.5 million over the weekend, bringing its total North American revenue to $395 million.
