Top tennis player Alexander Bublik's wife: "Hey, you jerk, don't you dare lose in the first round"

Alexander Bublik, the tennis player ranked 13th in the world, spoke about the separation between his personal life and his career, and also shared how he usually travels to tournaments together with his wife.

"At the beginning of the relationship, I told her: 'Let's separate things. I'm going to train, do you want to come with me? We come back home, and we forget about this sport. At home, I am not a tennis player'", the Kazakh tennis player explained in an interview with Karen Adamyan's YouTube channel. "And it really helps me in life, because there is no tennis overload, meaning there is no pressure from my family. So if I lose, it's like they tell me: 'Come home earlier'. Well, in general, I don't know, I'm burned out, losing to who knows who, and I write to her that I don't want to play anymore. And she says: 'Oh, okay, what are you worried about? You'll be home tomorrow'. So that's more or less the deal.

"And sometimes it's the opposite, when she wants to stay at the tournament. When we went to Rotterdam this year, she told me: 'Don't you dare, you jerk, lose in the first round, don't you dare. I don't want to go there'. She hates Rotterdam because it's always completely dark there. There is a hotel right in the city center, and it's always dark, it's always raining, and you can't go anywhere with the child. I tell her: 'Okay, let's go'. We flew from Astana, an eight-hour flight. I'm playing against Hurkacz, something like 7:6, 5:4 with a break. I look up at the stands, and she's just sitting there and not looking at me. I win the match, and she tells me: 'Well done.' So yes, we have a good sense of humor".

On his tendency to lash out on the court, Bublik noted:

"I don't see the point in just wearing masks. I said in my documentary that there is a communication wall between me and the media, between me and certain people I'm not very interested in — I have to communicate with them, work with them. It exists, of course, but I am not the same person I am at home, to put it bluntly. But, you know, wearing masks and pretending that I am some wonderful, kind, and sweet person who apologizes for every step he takes, not because he wants to apologize but because he was told to apologize — that I will not do".

Bublik concluded: "If I am truly guilty, I can apologize. I mean, until now I haven't apologized publicly because I don't think I have anything to apologize for, from my perspective. And then there are the apologies for a broken racket or for swearing, writing posts like: 'Please forgive me for losing in the first round.' Well, I think that's a bit, how to say, hypocritical".
