Football Association Seeks Suspension of Omer Dahan: "He Bet on His Own Teams' Matches"

The Football Association officially appealed to the disciplinary court today (Monday) to order the immediate suspension of Omer Dahan from all activities within the framework of the Association. The request stands until the conclusion of the criminal proceedings against him regarding suspicions of illegal betting, or alternatively for a period of at least 60 days.

The appeal notes that there is an evidentiary basis pointing to a serious pattern of misconduct, in which the striker is suspected of routinely betting on games in the league in which he participated, and even on matches of the teams for which he played. The Association views these matters with extreme severity and demands that he be prevented from returning to the pitch while the criminal investigation continues.

As recalled, the affair erupted last June when the player, who belongs to Maccabi Haifa and played last season on loan at Hapoel Ra'anana, was arrested. Although Dahan denied the reports at the time, claiming in a post that "I have no connection to claims regarding match-fixing or selling games," the Association is now demanding strict disciplinary measures be taken against him until the legal matter is clarified.
