The French Foreign Minister announced on Tuesday that France will expel two Iranian diplomats in the coming days. The decision follows the attack on two French diplomats in Tehran last month.
The French Foreign Minister stated:
"The Iranian people — a great people — are the main victim of this period of extreme tension in the Middle East; they are caught in a pincer between the violent suppression of the protests in January 2026 and the bombings. Precisely because France stands by the Iranian people and supports its artists, scientists, and researchers, the two French diplomats were scandalously and deliberately attacked on July 19th."
"I declared that this intolerable act would have consequences," he explained. Consequently, two Iranian diplomats stationed in France will be expelled shortly. The incident last month caused a great stir, as the two French diplomats were attacked and held in Tehran for several hours without the ability to communicate with their relatives. Following their return to France, Iran declared them persona non grata.
