Footballer's partner reveals the gift Messi gave to Argentina national team players
Marcos Senesi's girlfriend showcased a personal mate kit on social media that the defender received from the captain: a customized bag, a gold-plated thermos, a drinking vessel, mate herbs, and a straw.
A few days after the World Cup final, one of the gifts that Lionel Messi presented to every player on the Argentina national team was revealed. The kit was showcased by Kelsey-Rose Bowers, the partner of defender Marcos Senesi, who posted a video on social media revealing the personal mate set her partner received.
Bowers, an English soccer player, displayed a brown bag featuring the initials of the Argentine Football Association, an image of the World Cup trophy, and Senesi's name.
"I have to show you something really cool, you're going to love it. This is a personal bag that Marcos received from the national team, and his name is on it," she said at the beginning of the video.
She then explained the story behind the gift:
"This is a mate kit that Messi gave to all the players."
Inside the bag was a gold-plated Stanley thermos with the logo of Messi's brand, a mate drinking vessel, a pack of herbs, and a special straw with a built-in spoon.
Bowers also explained how the kit came into her possession: "Marcos gave it to me so I could look after it and take it back to Miami."
The video quickly went viral, providing another glimpse into the atmosphere within the Argentina camp during the World Cup. The personal gift to each player was intended to combine a gesture from the captain with one of the most prominent symbols of Argentine culture.
Bowers, 22, gained exposure herself during the World Cup, notably after stating she supported Argentina in the semi-final against England due to her connection to Senesi. She previously played for Chelsea and currently belongs to Bournemouth.
