Election Committee orders Bezalel Smotrich to remove campaign video
The "Choosing Israel" association filed a petition against a campaign video by the Finance Minister featuring children. Judge Noam Solberg ordered the party to remove the content.
The Chairman of the Central Election Committee, Judge Noam Solberg, issued a temporary injunction on Thursday, ordering Minister Bezalel Smotrich and his party to remove a video published the previous evening from their social media accounts.
The video features two girls discussing the fact that the father of one of them has not been called up for reserve duty for a year, concluding that the reason for this is "Smotrich."
The "Choosing Israel" association filed a petition against the video, claiming it violates the legal prohibition on using children in election propaganda.
The association also requested a temporary injunction to remove the video pending the hearing of the petition. Judge Solberg granted the request and ordered the minister and his party to respond to the petition by Monday, August 23, 2026.
Section 2c of the Election Law (Propaganda Methods) of 1959 prohibits the use of children under the age of 15 in election propaganda, except for footage or recordings where a child appears in a routine daily activity.
