Finance Committee Approves Quarter-Billion Shekel Allocation for Ultra-Orthodox Education

The Finance Committee approved a series of budget transfers totaling approximately a quarter of a billion shekels for the benefit of the ultra-Orthodox education system, as reported by the communications office of Knesset member Moshe Gafni, chairman of the Degel HaTorah party.

As part of the transfers, a budget increase for ultra-Orthodox kindergarten teachers was approved. According to the announcement, for the first time since the establishment of the state, all ultra-Orthodox kindergarten teachers will be budgeted according to their years of seniority. In addition, a budget was approved for the transportation of students in the Independent Education system and the Bnei Yosef network.

Other approved items include subsidies for after-school programs in 'Ptor' institutions and recognized but non-official institutions, budgets for Jewish cultural activities and for dealing with at-risk youth and youth who have dropped out of school, as well as subsidies for teacher training in seminaries and additional budgets for educational institutions.

Knesset member Moshe Gafni stated:

"Even in these complex days, when the world of Torah and education faces difficult challenges, it is our duty to continue to care for the children of Israel and the ultra-Orthodox education system. The budgets approved today are important news for kindergarten teachers, teachers, students, and educational institutions, and they will help correct distortions and bridge gaps that have persisted for years."

Gafni further said: "I thank everyone who helped in advancing this move. We will continue, with God's help, to act with determination for the sake of the world of Torah and education, and we will not let up until we ensure all the rights and resources due to the ultra-Orthodox education system."
