In a candid conversation on Avi Shoshan's podcast, singer Etti Levi looks back with a sense of regret at the decision to prioritize her career over family. She shares her experience with a failed surrogacy attempt due to financial reasons, dealing with loneliness and the fear of aging, and delivers a firm message to young women: "Freeze your eggs, don't give up on having children."
Singer Etti Levi was a guest for a candid and painful conversation on the podcast "Everything is Open" (Hakol Patuach) with Avi Shoshan. During the meeting, Levi shared the difficult feelings that have accompanied her over the years regarding the subject of motherhood, alongside memories of her late mother's advice.
"I feel that I missed many things along the way, and not small things, but big things," Levi shared.
According to her, it was only in recent years that the realization hit her regarding the personal price of her choice to prioritize her career over the years: "Suddenly you realize that despite all the music and all the performances and albums, what is a person worth if they have no continuation? That is the most painful thing."
Levi (57) said that she had wanted in the past to have children through a surrogacy process, but it was prevented due to financial limitations. When asked about regrets, she answered honestly: "I would have decided differently. If I had the wisdom and experience of today back then, my life would have looked completely different. I would have already had grandchildren."
"Even family forgets"
Alongside the musical success and performances, Levi describes a complex reality of loneliness, which she tries to fight through a daily routine of office work and caring for animals. However, she admits that the fear of the future exists: "Anyone who says they are not afraid of old age is a liar. There is no one who will remember you except for family, and even family forgets."
Despite the pain and regrets, Levi refuses to despair and expresses a deep belief in the power of fate to turn around. "The Creator created the world, so who are we?" she says with optimism. "He can turn a person's luck from the bottom to the top in seconds. I believe in the Creator, that it will be good, yes. I believe in good, only in good."
She wanted to convey her main message to the younger generation, and to women in particular: "Get married and have children, and the career will be fine. Whatever you want to do, do it, even if you don't get married, freeze your eggs. But not to have children at all? That is something I would not suggest to anyone."
