Censorship blocks Globes article publication without explanation

The censorship has decided to delay until further notice the publication of an item by Globes geopolitical correspondent Dean Shmuel Elmas. To our understanding, this decision lacks a security justification. This is an unusual step, especially given that the news is primarily of economic and not security significance.

This event follows a previous incident in which the censorship forbade Globes from publishing details regarding the engagement between Sivan Technologies and Elbit, only to approve the publication for another media outlet months later without updating Globes.

Globes works with the censorship on an ongoing basis and acts according to its instructions; therefore, we cannot elaborate on the content of the current item. However, as this is a highly puzzling decision, we are bringing it to the public's attention.

As part of our ongoing work, particularly during years of war, we have been asked more than once to omit details or change phrasing for reasons of state security, and we have acted accordingly. In the current case, the censorship refuses to identify the sensitive parts of the publication or explain why, and even rejects publication in a more vague version. According to the notice we received, the item is delayed until further notice without any security justification that can be addressed.

Since the beginning of the war, the number of materials submitted to the censorship has naturally increased, and alongside this, complaints about its methods have multiplied. Among the claims: lack of uniformity in policy toward media outlets, preferential treatment of certain outlets, and an outdated approach in the era of social networks and foreign publications.
