Knesset Finance Committee Approves Tax Relief for Non-Profits Despite Haredi Opposition
The Knesset Finance Committee approved tax relief for hundreds of non-profit organizations on Wednesday, bypassing opposition from ultra-Orthodox lawmakers amid a political debate ahead of elections.

The Knesset Finance Committee approved tax relief on Wednesday for hundreds of non-profit organizations, despite opposition from ultra-Orthodox lawmakers. The approved measures fall under Section 46 of the Income Tax Ordinance and apply to non-profits that do not receive direct state funding in welfare, culture, religion, and health sectors.
The committee stated that the Attorney General's position was to exclude various ultra-Orthodox organizations from the lists due to the legal status of yeshiva students regarding IDF service. Committee acting chair MK Hanoch Milwidsky noted that a temporary three-month compromise proposed by the Tax Authority director was rejected by the Attorney General.
MKs Moshe Gafni and Yitzhak Pindrus opposed the move, sparking a heated political debate days before the elections. Ultimately, the committee voted to approve the list of organizations without the contested ultra-Orthodox entities.
