Kevin Rubin reveals: How ChatGPT chose his son's name
After mockery and comparisons to pesticides and drugs, the internet star reveals the surprising way his firstborn's name was chosen during a road trip with his wife and what meaning the artificial intelligence found.
In a podcast interview alongside HaPashuta and Shir Hadas Meir, internet personality and actor Kevin Rubin revealed the story behind the unconventional name of his firstborn son, Kay. While the interviewers were surprised by the choice and raised associations ranging from the K300 insecticide to drugs and nature parties, Rubin clarified that the source of the name came from a desire to continue a family tradition of unique names with a little help from artificial intelligence tools.
Rubin explained his decision based on his personal experience:
"I have a special name. 33 years ago, when they said 'Kevin', the reaction was: 'What the f***? Why are you called Kevin?'. I decided that I had fun having a special name. I was driving with Dani in the car, she asked: 'Kevin, what shall we call him? It's a boy, what shall we do?'. I said: 'I want a special name, I'm throwing out letters and words, stop me when something sounds cool'".
The selection process itself happened randomly during a trip with his wife, Daniela Cristea, until they decided to check the meaning of the chosen letters in depth:
"I started saying the A-B-C. A, B, E, T, P, K... I said: 'Listen carefully, ask ChatGPT. If it has a meaning, I'm taking this name'. It turns out it's 'blessing' in Japanese and 'luck' in English. That is how the name Kay was determined for our first son".
Online reactions were accompanied by a lot of humor, but Rubin clarified that this was not part of his and his wife's considerations:
"We didn't think about drugs. I don't need these things, and it wasn't in my head. And then when I uploaded the post 'his name is Kay', a wave of K300 and drug comparisons arrived".
Despite the jabs and the joking criticism, Rubin takes things in stride and believes his son will handle the unique name just as he grew up:
"Am I upset about it? No, because there was also teasing about my name Kevin, I think he will enjoy it".
