Until the last moment: The attempt to keep Kangwa before his transfer to Panathinaikos
Just before the major transfer of Kings Kangwa to Panathinaikos was finalized, Hapoel Be'er Sheva attempted to reach an agreement with the Greek club and the player himself to keep him for the two upcoming Champions League qualifying matches against Red Star Belgrade. The club was willing to waive part of the 4 million euro transfer fee, but both the Greek club and the player declined.
Just before the deal with Panathinaikos was finalized and the major transfer of Kings Kangwa was completed, Hapoel Be'er Sheva tried to reach an understanding with the Greek club and with Kings Kangwa himself, so that he would remain in the ranks of Hapoel Be'er Sheva and help the team face Red Star Belgrade in the two matches of the third round of the Champions League qualifiers.
Hapoel Be'er Sheva was willing to waive a portion of Kangwa's transfer fee, which is estimated at 4 million euros, in order for him to take part in these two matches, just as he played against Víkingur. Both the Greek club and Kangwa himself refused, claiming that the deal was already underway and the player had to make the move. It was important for Hapoel Be'er Sheva to include Kangwa in the upcoming round, especially since Panathinaikos cannot use him in its European matches anyway, as he already played for Hapoel Be'er Sheva this summer. Nevertheless, both the Greeks and the midfielder decided that he would move to Athens immediately after the match against Víkingur last week.
Panathinaikos will play the day after tomorrow against CSKA 1948 in the third qualifying round of the Conference League, and Kangwa will not be able to be part of the squad.
