Jerusalem Launches New Defense Tech Accelerator
The Jerusalem Development Authority, the Ministry of Defense, and the Jerusalem Municipality are launching a new deep-tech accelerator. Selected startups will receive up to two million shekels in funding and access to defense research facilities.
The Jerusalem Development Authority (JDA) is leading a new accelerator program in the security sector, publishing a call for proposals in partnership with the Ministry of Jerusalem and Israel Tradition, the Jerusalem Municipality, the Directorate of Defense Research and Development (MAFAT) at the Ministry of Defense, and various defense industries.
The call for proposals invites entities with expertise in venture capital, high-tech, and defense to submit plans for an accelerator that will invest in security-focused ventures operating in Jerusalem.
The program features a matching mechanism where the JDA will provide funds equal to the amount invested by selected partners, up to a ceiling of two million shekels. Full terms are detailed in the call for proposals, which closes on August 17, 2026.
The accelerator will nurture startups by addressing the challenges of participating defense industries, assisting in POC (Proof of Concept) development through access to research and laboratories, and facilitating business development and strategic industry connections in Israel and abroad.
This initiative is part of a strategic cooperation agreement between the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Defense signed last December, aiming to establish Jerusalem as a premier hub for innovation in security, high-tech, medicine, and academic research.
JDA CEO Tzachi Namir stated: "The deep-tech sector continues to expand in Jerusalem, joining development centers like Rafael, Elbit-Roker, Ophir Optronics, and Sivan Lasers. This accelerator will bolster Jerusalem's status as a leading national center for innovation and technological development."
Brigadier General (Res.) Dr. Danny Gold, Head of MAFAT, noted: "Combining MAFAT's R&D capabilities with Jerusalem's entrepreneurial potential creates a national force multiplier.
