Shots Fired at Jisr az-Zarqa School as Crime Wave Hits 173 Dead
Shots fired at a Jisr az-Zarqa school left no injuries as police swiftly arrested three suspects. Meanwhile, violent crime surges with a Negev teacher injured and three young men found dead in a burned car, bringing the Arab community's yearly toll to 173.
Gunshots were fired today (Sunday) at a school in Jisr az-Zarqa, with the apparent intent to target students. Despite the severe danger, the incident ended without any injuries. According to the police, an investigation was launched immediately upon receiving the report, and three suspects involved in the shooting were arrested shortly thereafter. Police will request a court extension of their detention as the investigation proceeds.
This shooting comes just days after a teacher was shot in the parking lot of an elementary school in the Bedouin town of Hura in the Negev, minutes before the start of the school day and in front of students heading to class. The teacher, Urwa Nasser from the northern town of Deir Hanna, sustained moderate injuries.
Separately, overnight, three young men—two brothers aged 17 and 20, and their 22-year-old cousin—were found dead in the backseat of a burned-out vehicle in an open area between Baqa al-Gharbiya and Jatt in the Sharon region. Police suspect they were murdered elsewhere, possibly in Qalansawe or Jaljulia, and their bodies were set on fire along with the car. No arrests have been made yet.
With these latest incidents, the death toll in the Arab community has reached 173 since the beginning of the year.
