Grenade attack in Bat Yam: police finalize evidentiary case against three suspects

The Israel Police completed the formation of the evidentiary case today, Wednesday, against three suspects involved in the throwing of a fragmentation grenade at a residential building in Bat Yam. In the coming days, a formal indictment is expected to be filed, alongside a request for detention until the end of legal proceedings.
The incident occurred on August 2, 2026, at approximately 03:00 AM, when a report was received at the Israel Police 100 emergency center regarding a loud explosion on Yitzhak Sadeh Street in Bat Yam. Large forces from the Bat Yam station and Tel Aviv District sappers were dispatched to the scene to collect evidence and conduct an investigation. It was determined that a fragmentation grenade had been thrown into the building's lobby, causing heavy damage to the entrance area.
As part of an expanded search operation, police officers from the Ashdod station located three suspects—residents of the south aged 17, 31, and 33—traveling in a vehicle identified as fleeing the scene. The individuals were arrested in an open area in Ashdod and transferred to the Bat Yam station for interrogation. Their detention has been extended multiple times by the court.
During the investigation, detectives discovered another grenade buried in the ground near the site of the suspects' arrest. Investigators have successfully linked the trio to serious offenses, including aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit a crime, and negligent storage of hazardous materials.
