Jerusalem Man Arrested for Attempted Murder of Brother in Trash Bin
A Jerusalem resident was arrested for allegedly trying to murder his mentally disabled brother by throwing him into an underground trash container in Gilo. The victim was rescued in moderate condition.
A man was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of attempting to murder his mentally disabled brother by throwing him into an underground trash container in the Gilo neighborhood of Jerusalem.
The victim was rescued by firefighters, treated by MADA paramedics, and evacuated in moderate condition to Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital. The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
Firefighters dispatched to the scene found the man trapped inside the deep bin. They identified a severe lack of oxygen and high concentrations of explosive gases, making the rescue operation complex and hazardous. Due to the immediate danger to his life, firefighters had to convince the victim to wear a rescue hood that supplied him with breathing air.
The incident commander, Rav-Reshef Rami Meir, described the rescue as "complex and dangerous," stating that only after more than an hour of work were the teams able to create the conditions to complete the extraction. The forces pumped fresh air into the bin using specialized equipment to reduce gas concentrations. Subsequently, a Jerusalem municipality crane was summoned to lift the container, which weighed approximately one ton with its contents.
