Israir Cuts Weekly New York Flights Months After Launching Flagship Route
Israir Airlines has begun canceling weekly flights to New York less than two months after launching its premier transatlantic route, surprising industry experts amid heavy competition.

Less than two months after launching its premier route to New York, Israir Airlines has begun scaling back its flight schedule by canceling at least one weekly flight, specifically on Tuesdays. Passengers holding tickets for upcoming weeks have already started receiving cancellation notices from the airline.
The unexpected reduction comes shortly after Israir entered the highly competitive and lucrative trans-Atlantic market. The carrier was the final Israeli airline to join the route, following extensive preparations and regulatory approvals. The decision to cut flights is particularly surprising given the high demand and heavy competition on the New York corridor.
Currently, El Al Israel Airlines operates at least five daily flights to New York, while Arkia operates a daily flight. Major U.S. carriers, including Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, have also resumed their operations to the region, alongside numerous passengers opting for connecting flights via Europe.
Industry insiders have expressed surprise at the sudden cutback, noting that winter demand fluctuations are standard in aviation. Some speculate that safety precautions amid potential tensions with Iran may have influenced the decision, though Israir has declined to comment on the matter.
