The Israeli national tennis team faces a challenging uphill battle after a disappointing opening day in Ljubljana. Competing in the World Group II of the Davis Cup, the blue-and-white squad finished Friday trailing 2:0 against the host nation Slovenia.
In the opening singles match, Amit Vales fell to Bor Artnak with scores of 6:3, 6:4. Following this setback, Orel Kimhi stepped onto the court to level the score against Filip-Jeff Planinsek. Despite a resilient effort, Kimhi succumbed in straight sets, 7:6, 6:4, leaving Israel in a deep hole.
Tight First Set Followed by Slovenian Dominance
The second match began on a very balanced note as Kimhi and Planinsek contested a tight first set that forced a tiebreak. Both players traded breaks and maintained an open battle, but the Slovenian proved more precise in the crucial points, claiming the opener 7:6.
