Ahead of the UN General Assembly, Iran signaled readiness for talks with the US while outlining strict conditions, as President Donald Trump prepared for a series of high-level diplomatic meetings.
Hours before US President Donald Trump addressed the UN General Assembly, Iran signaled readiness to resume diplomatic talks with Washington. A senior Iranian official told Reuters that the delegation in New York holds full authority to revive negotiations, though ruling out a meeting between Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the summit.
Trump's UN Schedule and Warnings
Speaking to Fox News ahead of his trip to New York, President Donald Trump commented on the rising tensions: "I am in a decision-making phase. Very big things are about to happen. Iran better behave." Trump's itinerary includes delivering a speech to delegates, followed by a series of intensive meetings with leaders from four continents, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and representatives from Gulf nations such as Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
Iranian Conditions and Regional Tensions
Meanwhile, Iran outlined seven conditions for negotiations, while Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, warned Al Jazeera that the regime is prepared for a decisive war. Rezaei claimed that US calculations regarding Iran have been flawed and that Washington would benefit from accepting Tehran's terms, which include lifting military pressure and ending blockades on Iranian ports in exchange for reopening the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
