An Iranian Sepehran Airlines passenger plane was forced to return to Mashhad airport and make an emergency landing on Monday following a technical malfunction shortly after takeoff.

The Boeing 737 was operating a domestic flight from Mashhad to Kermanshah in western Iran when the incident occurred around 17:30 local time. According to the official IRNA news agency, the pilot reported a potential engine issue, declared an emergency, and requested to return to Shahid هاشمی-Nejad International Airport.

The aircraft landed safely, and all passengers and crew disembarked uninjured. Iranian media reported that one of the airport runways was temporarily closed as a result of the incident.

While initial reports claimed a tire burst during takeoff with debris striking the engine, airport public relations director Hassan Jafari clarified that the tire did not explode. Instead, part of its outer casing detached during departure. Civil aviation authorities are investigating the exact cause, and no official conclusions have yet been released.
