National Insurance Institute: Unemployment Benefits of Up to 13,769 Shekels to Be Paid on August 12

Unemployment benefits from the National Insurance Institute (Bituach Leumi) will be deposited into the accounts of eligible recipients on August 12. Eligibility extends not only to those who have been laid off but also to employees placed on unpaid leave at the initiative of their employer for a period of at least thirty days.

To qualify for the benefit, an employee must have completed at least one year of work within the eighteen months preceding their unemployment. Employees who resigned voluntarily may also be eligible, though in most cases, they must wait ninety days before payments begin, unless they can prove the resignation was justified.

Benefits are not deposited automatically upon the termination of employment. To receive them, the unemployed individual must take the following steps:

1. Register as soon as possible with the Employment Service system.

2. Submit an official claim for unemployment benefits via the National Insurance Institute website.

The benefit amount is calculated individually based on the employee's average salary prior to dismissal, taking age into account. While there is no legally fixed minimum amount, as benefits are based on percentages of previous earnings, there is a clear maximum ceiling:

• For the first 125 days of unemployment, the maximum monthly benefit is approximately 13,769 shekels.

• From the 126th day onwards, the maximum ceiling drops to approximately 9,179 shekels per month.
