The police prosecution unit filed an indictment on Thursday against 25-year-old Tamer Salfiti from the village of Umm al-Ghanam, who attempted to run over a man and then stabbed him in the head. The victim was evacuated for medical treatment at HaEmek Medical Center in Афула, and an investigation by the Tabor police station revealed that the incident stemmed from disputes over an arrest following a manslaughter case in the village.

Salfiti was charged with armed assault causing injury, illegal possession of a knife, threats, and reckless driving. The case will be tried in the Magistrate's Court in Назарет. Warrant Officer Aluma Abramovitch, an investigator at the Tabor station, stated that on August 29, a report was received from the hospital regarding a stab wound victim.

The Attack Details

According to the investigation, the victim was sitting on a motorcycle at the roadside near the village entrance when Salfiti arrived in a large commercial vehicle, stopped next to him, threatened him, and tried to run him over.

The victim jumped off the motorcycle at the last second toward the road, and only by a miracle were his lives saved. He approached the driver's door to prevent the suspect from getting out, at which point the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the head from inside the vehicle, Abramovitch noted.

Background of the Dispute

The victim's complaint revealed that the suspect's close relatives were arrested on suspicion of murdering the victim's cousin in an accidental shooting in the village. Since the arrest, the suspect's family has allegedly harassed the victim's family, even though the victim stressed he bears no grudge and understands the death was accidental.

Defense attorney Artzi Argov responded: He denies all charges. We regret that the Полиция Израиля failed to gather evidence that would have clearly led to a different conclusion. We hope the court will soon order his release.
