Israeli Film "Independence" Crosses 100,000 Viewers After Ophir Awards Sweep
The Israeli film "Independence" by Moshe Rosenthal and starring Assi Cohen surpasses 100,000 viewers in cinemas after dominating the Ophir Awards and heading to the Oscars.

After its triumph at the Ophir Awards, the Israeli film "Independence" has achieved a major milestone in local cinemas, drawing over 100,000 viewers in less than a month since its release. Directed and written by Moshe Rosenthal and starring Assi Cohen, the movie is proving to be a massive commercial success alongside its critical acclaim.
Even before this box office achievement, "Independence" broke all records by securing 16 nominations at the Ophir Awards. At the ceremony held on September 9, it took home ten awards, including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay, alongside honors for cinematography, editing, casting, and sound design.
The plot centers on Boaz, a 12-year-old boy in 1987 who uncovers a secret about his admired father, Meir, shaking his family to its core. The narrative later shifts to an adult Boaz, who must confront the lingering shadows of his childhood. Yair Mazor stars as the young Boaz in his debut role, while Ido Tako portrays him as an adult.
Cohen returns to the big screen for the first time in roughly 15 years since "Zohi Sdom", starring alongside Keren Tzur as the mother, and Mor Dimri and Neta Urbach as the sisters. For Rosenthal, this is his second feature film following the acclaimed "Karaoke", which won four Ophir Awards.
The international premiere of "Independence", titled "Tell Me Everything" abroad, took place in January at the Sundance Film Festival, followed by the opening spot at the Jerusalem Film Festival. Following its Ophir victory for Best Film, it has been chosen to represent Israel in the race for the Academy Awards, competing for a spot in the Best International Feature category.
