LeBron James stunned the NBA when he chose to sign with Philadelphia for an exceptionally low salary — $8 million for two years. In the upcoming season, he will pocket just under $3.87 million, which means that 292 (!) players will earn more than him, including names you have likely never heard of.
In Philadelphia alone, there will be six players who will earn more than LeBron: Anfernee Simons ($6 million), Dean Wade ($9 million), V.J. Edgecombe ($11.6 million), Tyrese Maxey ($40.7 million), Joel Embiid ($57.7 million), and Jaylen Brown ($57.7 million).
For comparison, Deni Avdija, who holds one of the most lucrative contracts in the NBA, will earn $13.1 million next season — 144th place in the league; Ben Saraf will earn less than LeBron ($3 million), as will Deni Wolf ($2.9 million).
There is no need to pity LeBron, of course: he has earned more than any other NBA player ever, with $581 million. Second on the list is Kevin Durant ($501 million), while the top 10 is rounded out by Stephen Curry ($470 million), James Harden ($411 million), Paul George ($406 million), Chris Paul ($404 million), Kawhi Leonard ($375 million), Jimmy Butler ($366 million), Damian Lillard ($365 million), and Anthony Davis ($364 million).
Michael Jordan, in case you were wondering, earned "only" $86.7 million throughout his career from his various NBA contracts — before sponsorship deals, of course.
