An incident at a military base in the south of the country: about 30 commanders and recruits at the Gadna Sde Boker base reported in recent days that they are suffering from acute symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Following the spread of the illness, the Air Force training taking place at the site was frozen, and the sick soldiers were sent for examinations and medical treatment.
According to a report in "HaYom", comprehensive examinations were conducted for the soldiers at the base, with a medical check defined as a necessary condition for continuing the training. At the same time, a minibus carrying soldiers who suffered from similar symptoms left the base for a local clinic to receive appropriate treatment.
The soldiers, who are participating in training moved to Sde Boker from the Uvda base, describe poor sanitary conditions in the base kitchen and claimed the presence of insects and pests. According to them, the illness did not surprise them. After the sick soldiers were barred from entering the food complex, they claimed that no proper substitute was provided, and they were forced to settle for popsicles only.
Command officials are examining whether the source of the illness is the food served in the kitchen. At this stage, no official determination has been provided regarding the cause of the outbreak, and it is not yet known when the training will be resumed. The IDF Spokesperson has not yet responded to the events.
