Following the fires in Europe: George Clooney and his family evacuated from their home in France
The actor, his wife, and their two children left their home in Brignoles following the wave of wildfires in Europe. In a letter to the mayor, they promised: "No matter what happens, we will be part of the reconstruction."
George Clooney, his wife Amal, and their two children were forced to evacuate from their home in Brignoles in southeastern France against the backdrop of a wave of wildfires raging across Europe. A representative for Clooney confirmed to PEOPLE that the couple shared news of the evacuation in a letter sent to the mayor of Brignoles, Didier.
"Dear Didier, at this stage we have no idea if our beautiful home will survive this terrible moment. As we evacuate from Brignoles, we want to emphasize two things: first of all, we hope that you and the residents of our town are safe, and secondly — Amal and I are committed to the fact that no matter what happens to our village, we are part of this community and will be part of its reconstruction. We love Brignoles and our friends who live there."
65-year-old Clooney, 48-year-old Amal, and their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, live in the town of Brignoles in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The house is located in one of the areas affected by the fires, while other fire centers are also burning in Spain, Italy, and Greece.
According to the AP, the current scope of the fires is four times larger than the area of Paris. CNN reported that about 224,000 people were evacuated in the Gironde region of France, and another 3,000 in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. In Spain, at least 63,152 people have been evacuated.
Besides the farm in France, Clooney and Amal also own an estate in England, a villa on Lake Como in Italy, and property near his family in Kentucky. At the end of last year, the couple and their twins were granted French citizenship.
