Devastating wildfires in Washington state: Suspect arrested for arson

US authorities arrested a 37-year-old man on Monday on suspicion of igniting one of the devastating wildfires raging in Washington state. The Spokane County Sheriff's Office announced that Aaron F. Prinachi was arrested in connection with the "Gray Fire" and is being held on a $1 million bond.

The fire, which broke out on Saturday, is one of several that erupted in Spokane, the state's second-largest city. Reports indicate these are among the most destructive fires in the state's history, having destroyed at least 700 structures and forcing approximately 67,000 people to evacuate. Residents returning to the area found their homes completely destroyed, with many cases leaving only chimneys standing.

The fires jumped across roads and rivers, consuming about 32 square kilometers by Monday. The sky has been filled with smoke and heavy haze. The state's congressional delegation has appealed to US President Donald Trump to approve an expedited emergency declaration.

Sergeant Mark Gregory, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office, stated that the county has received nearly 300 reports of missing persons. More than 1,000 firefighters have arrived from other states to assist on the ground, and their numbers are expected to double in the coming days. The fires in the Spokane area remain out of control and are part of dozens of wildfires currently burning across the western US.
