Entering deeper into the campaign: A missile unit from North Korea will be stationed in Russia
The cooperation between Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un is deepening with a new unit intended to assist in the war in Ukraine.
Reuters reported that forces from North Korea have begun deploying in Russia, bringing with them more than one hundred ballistic missiles. Approximately 15,000 North Korean soldiers are currently stationed in Russia. The alliance between Russia and North Korea has tightened significantly in recent years, with the highlight being direct military cooperation in the war in Ukraine.
A missile unit from North Korea has begun deploying in western Russia. According to a source in Ukraine's military intelligence, the unit may be equipped with 120 ballistic missiles and six launchers for strikes against Ukraine. This marks another significant step by Pyongyang, reflecting its growing involvement in the conflict. Russia is benefiting from military aid provided by Kim's regime, while North Korea is reducing its international isolation.
According to estimates from Ukraine and South Korea, about 14,000 to 15,000 North Korean soldiers are stationed in Russia. Additionally, it is estimated that North Korea has provided Russia with millions of artillery shells and mortar rounds, as well as ballistic missiles, long-range cannons, and rocket systems.
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense stated that Russia plans to station a new missile unit, including approximately 90 North Korean soldiers, in the Voronezh region of western Russia. A source familiar with the matter told Reuters that the USA is aware of the deployment of these forces.
Ukraine is suffering from a severe shortage of advanced air defense systems, and Russia is attempting to exploit this by increasing its use of ballistic missiles, which are particularly difficult to intercept. Due to this shortage, Kyiv is unable to intercept the majority of Russian attacks launched against the country.
