Refused to open the door: police broke in and uncovered a gambling den in Ashdod
Detectives from the Ashdod station arrived at a building following suspicion of illegal gambling operations, but those present refused to open the door. Police broke in and located 28 decks of cards and suitcases with chips. Five suspects were detained for questioning.
Officers from the Ashdod station uncovered today, Sunday, a location allegedly used for illegal gambling operations in the city. As part of the operation, officers arrived at the building and demanded that those present open the door. After they refused, the forces broke down the entrance and entered the premises.
Upon entering, officers located several suspects who were allegedly participating in gambling games. During a search of the site, equipment used to manage the operations was seized, including 28 decks of cards and suitcases containing chips. At the conclusion of the operation, three suspects accused of maintaining the site and two additional participants were detained for questioning. The five individuals were transferred to the police station for further investigation.
This incident is part of ongoing police efforts against illegal gambling dens in the south. Last May, detectives from the Ashdod station raided another location in the city, seizing computers and a recording system. A month earlier, station detectives and fighters from the 'Sa'ar' brigade raided another site, where 15 computers were located and the owner and three players were detained.
Another incident occurred last week in Ashkelon, when detectives from the Ashkelon station and fighters from the Southern Border Police (Magav) raided a location suspected of being an illegal gambling den. During the search, equipment for bingo games, tickets, cash, and checks were seized, and four suspects were detained. Police are investigating suspicions that a senior figure in the criminal underworld of the south is behind the management and operation of the facility.
