"There were cruelties": Noam Kleinstein talks about the complex relationship with Meshi
Rita's daughter opens up about her complex childhood alongside her sister Meshi, the family gap, and the moment everything changed between them.
Noam Kleinstein, born on February 2, 2001, grew up in one of the most musical and well-known families in Israel. As the youngest daughter of singers Rita and Rami Kleinstein, and the younger sister of actress and singer Meshi Kleinstein, artistic endeavor was a natural part of her childhood landscape.
Noam began playing classical piano from a very young age and by the age of 13 had already begun writing and composing songs. Later, she studied at the prestigious music department of Alon High School in Ramat HaSharon and served in the military band "Alterman's Project" in the Education Corps.
In recent years, Kleinstein has established her status as a singer-songwriter, musician, and voice actress. She released her self-titled debut album in 2022, and in 2026 released her second album, "The Safe Way to Break My Own Heart," which includes successful singles such as "On the Sofa" and "I Would Like." Alongside regular performances on stages across the country, including Zappa clubs, Noam has recently come a long way on a personal level as well, when she left her mother Rita's house for the first time and moved into a shared apartment with her partner, Tohar Rubinstein.
In an open conversation with chef Haim Cohen, Noam shared a humble and humorous revelation about the complexity of growing up alongside an older sister with a significant age gap.
"Now we are amazing sisters, but there is a 9-year gap and she was the only one and the queen, and it was very hard for her. There were cruelties of an older sister; older siblings prepare you for life. Her calming down was gradual, and I think I also needed to mature. We are very different; she is the most organized, everything is in its place, entering her room is like entering a temple, and all the clothes are folded beautifully, and I come and take her clothes, ruin and break things. She would go crazy because of me. And when I matured and we lived in separate houses, suddenly I am in love with her. Meshi is no pushover, and because I have less experience in things, I often consult with her. She really protects me, a real big sister."
As Noam described, the change in the relationship occurred with their personal maturation and the move to separate residences. The differences in character between Meshi's order and Noam's spontaneity gave way to deep friendship and mutual appreciation. Today, Noam sees Meshi as a significant anchor and protective figure, expressing great love for her older sister.
