Mocking Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir: The officer from October 7 is still in the IDF

Lt. Col. A., the intelligence officer of the Gaza Division, is effectively mocking Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir. Almost three years after the October 7 massacre, Lt. Col. A. refuses to take responsibility for his failure, refuses to retire from the IDF, and is ignoring the decision of Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir to dismiss him from career and reserve service.

The Chief of Staff's decision was made on November 23 last year regarding a number of officers and officials whom the committee headed by Maj. Gen. Sami Turgeman determined were the central figures associated with the severe consequences of the IDF's failure on October 7, 2023.

Since then, Lt. Col. A., who is the son of a senior major general in the reserves considered close to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has managed to evade the implementation of the Chief of Staff's decision. He is still serving in active duty in the IDF's Intelligence Directorate (Aman). The IDF Spokesperson claims that an IDF Manpower Directorate committee is supposed to carry out the procedure for terminating the officer's contract.

Eyal Eshel, whose daughter, Sgt. Roni Eshel, was killed in the attack on the Nahal Oz outpost, said this morning:

"I don't understand how this man, who is responsible for the terrible disaster, is still wearing an IDF uniform."

Eshel expressed criticism that the Chief of Staff's decisions regarding the officer's dismissal are not being implemented.
