IDF Seeks Shin Bet Assistance in Investigating Controversial Documentary
The IDF has requested Shin Bet assistance in investigating the controversial "Sufa" documentary produced with The Guardian, focusing on potential classified information leaks.
The IDF has approached the Shin Bet to assist in investigating the controversial "Sufa" (NSA) documentary produced with the British newspaper The Guardian. Currently, the Shin Bet is not yet involved, awaiting an official request following a decision by the Military Advocate General and the Attorney General.
The move follows a series of steps ordered by IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, who instructed the Military Advocate General to examine potential legal actions and investigate potential classified information leaks regarding the film's production. A multidisciplinary team led by the Head of the Planning Directorate has also been established to address the allegations, focusing on Unit 8200.
"Sufa" features testimonies from 24 soldiers regarding IDF operations in the Gaza Strip, raising allegations concerning collateral damage policy, strikes, and artificial intelligence tools. The IDF has strongly rejected the claims as false and distorted.
The investigation begins as Israel has yet to obtain a full copy of the film, despite prior warnings from the Israeli embassy in Rome regarding its screening at the Venice Film Festival.
