IDF Security Breach: Soldiers Continue Sharing Sensitive Base Footage on TikTok
Three years after the October 7 massacre, a severe operational security breach persists within the IDF as soldiers continue uploading sensitive footage from military bases to social media platforms, including TikTok.
According to an investigative report presented by Matan Yitzhaki, soldiers regularly broadcast from bases, living quarters, and shooting ranges with open faces, visible insignia, and names. Intelligence gathered by the terrorist organization Hamas prior to October 7 heavily relied on such social media activity to map bases and secure locations.
The Morphius System and Live-Stream Vulnerabilities
While the IDF developed a specialized monitoring system called "Morpheus" to detect risky accounts and flag sensitive content, the phenomenon remains widespread. Investigators discovered that live-streaming features on TikTok allow soldiers to interact directly with viewers, receiving virtual gifts convertible to real cash.
During these live broadcasts, viewers have been documented asking sensitive questions in Arabic regarding military units and weaponry access, creating severe intelligence risks.
"In the IDF, there are clear orders and guidelines regarding the use of social media, photography in military facilities, and the publication of content during service, designed to prevent the exposure of sensitive information to the enemy," the IDF stated in response.
Despite official regulations, monitoring indicates enforcement gaps remain a critical vulnerability.
