The Israel Defense Forces have launched a pilot program to protect military outposts using anti-drone netting, according to reports. The defensive installations have been set up at three cross-border outposts along the Gaza Strip.

Military officials estimate that the reinforcement of all cross-border outposts will be completed in the coming months. The initiative comes amid growing concerns over the increasing use of fiber-optic drones.

Defense establishment figures are taking the drone threat seriously following widespread deployment of the technology by Hezbollah during the campaign in Lebanon. The IDF Southern Command is preparing for the possibility that fiber-optic drones, which are relatively simple to manufacture and smuggle, could soon appear in the Gaza Strip, though no such usage has been identified in the enclave thus far.

Security officials have identified efforts by Hamas to increase aerial smuggling operations. The group is reportedly stockpiling drones to weaponize them for future hostilities, with smuggling attempts primarily concentrated along the border with Egypt. Estimates suggest that dozens of explosive-laden drones have successfully entered the Strip recently.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah continues to develop its drone capabilities in Lebanon, focusing on FPV drones capable of carrying between 2.5 and 6 kilograms of explosives. The group has also extended the operational range of its fiber-optic cables by more than 10 kilometers, allowing for strikes from greater distances using high explosives laden with shrapnel.
