Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson stunned at Athlos London in a futuristic Nike suit, but Team GB sponsorship rules prevent her from wearing it at Los Angeles 2028.
Keely Hodgkinson capped off her 2026 season in style with another victory in the 800-meter race at Athlos London. However, even before crossing the finish line, the British Olympic champion grabbed attention with her striking full-body Nike racing suit featuring a hood, which drew comparisons to science fiction film attire.
Sponsorship Hurdles for Los Angeles 2028
It has now emerged that Hodgkinson will not be permitted to wear Nike's futuristic black speed suit at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles due to Team GB's strict sponsorship rules.
The 800-meter champion first debuted the suit at the Athlos event in London. The unique gear covers the body from wrists to ankles with an open back design, helping her secure a time of 1:56.40. While inspired by Cathy Freeman's iconic Sydney 2000 suit, British athletes are contractually obligated to wear kit provided by official team sponsor Adidas, meaning Hodgkinson may watch rivals wear the suit while she cannot.
Team GB and Adidas Partnership
Team GB and Adidas are expected to continue their long-standing partnership through the 2028 Games. A Team GB spokesperson stated:
We have always worked to provide innovative equipment that puts athletes at the center and supports our teams to perform at their best.
Despite the restriction, Hodgkinson remains thrilled with the experiment, noting that the suit felt remarkably comfortable even in extreme heat.
