Hezbollah's New Tactic Regarding the Israel-Lebanon Agreement
According to a report in Lebanon, the terrorist organization is refraining from action on the ground, convinced that the agreement is inapplicable. Meanwhile, President Aoun has proposed establishing an alternative international force to replace UNIFIL and ensure implementation.
The Lebanese newspaper 'Ad-Diyar', which is close to the Shiite camp, reported this morning, Saturday, on discussions within the Hezbollah leadership regarding the framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon. According to the report, the leaders of the terrorist organization believe that 'the framework agreement is stillborn' and its implementation is almost impossible.
This assessment by Hezbollah has prevented it from taking steps on the ground to sabotage the agreement. The organization is convinced that the agreement will collapse in any case, 'in the drift of developments in Lebanon and the region, and even if the Israelis take very limited steps.'
Against this background, sources told the newspaper that at this stage they rule out the possibility of an escalation in southern Lebanon by Israel. According to the sources, after the Lebanese file moved under direct American supervision, the USA cannot allow Israel to violate the understandings due to its support for Aoun's rule in Lebanon.
Over the weekend, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun declared that 'the time has come to end the war once and for all.' According to him, Lebanon sees the continued presence of UNIFIL in the south of the country as the best way forward for the near future.
'If this is prevented by the Security Council, then it is possible to establish an alternative force that will take their place and assist the Lebanese army in clearing the southern regions, removing unexploded ordnance, and supervising the implementation of the framework agreement between Lebanon and Israel under the auspices of the USA,' said Aoun.
