Hegseth: "We were at a level of readiness not seen since World War II"

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth addressed the cancelled American strike on Monday. He emphasized that the US military was prepared to carry out the mission at any stage and maintains a high level of readiness despite ongoing negotiations between the parties.

"The Department of Defense was prepared and remains ready at levels not seen since World War II. We are prepared even now," Hegseth stated.

The Secretary of Defense noted that despite the decision not to proceed with the strike, the US military continues to maintain a high state of alert for any developments.

Hegseth's remarks follow President Donald Trump's decision over the weekend not to carry out a planned strike against Iran, contrary to growing expectations of a military campaign. The decision sparked significant interest in the US and globally, given the extensive military preparations that preceded it.

Previously, President Trump addressed the talks with Iran, stating: "We are talking to them, it will save many lives." The President also assessed that understandings already exist regarding the Strait of Hormuz and that an agreement on Iran's nuclear disarmament will be reached in the future.
