Six rounds into the EuroLeague season, Hapoel Tel Aviv presents two distinct narratives. On one hand, Elijah Bryant continues to establish himself as the undisputed leader. On the other hand, Daniel Oturu, one of the most dominant players last season, is still struggling to replicate that form. Tonight in Sofia, as the Reds host Virtus Bologna—whose center rotation leads the competition in cumulative index rating—Oturu will face a major test.

While Bryant has proven he can be relied upon in clutch moments, the coaching staff knows that to achieve the club's lofty goals, they will need much more from their big man as well. Statistics vividly illustrate the strengths of both teams. Hapoel leads the EuroLeague in guard production with 328 cumulative index rating points over six rounds. Virtus, conversely, ranks first in center contribution with 207 index points, compared to just 118 produced by the Reds' centers.

Bryant has already evolved into Dimitris Itoudis's most vital player, and his status has only solidified this season. After being named to the All-EuroLeague First Team, he opened with averages of 15.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, alongside an impressive efficiency rating of 24. In an 80-81 victory over Crvena Zvezda, Bryant posted 18 points, ten rebounds, and four assists. Two days later against Real Madrid, he stepped up further with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists in a 102-98 win.

In contrast, Oturu's picture is different. Last season he was an anchor in the paint, finishing the EuroLeague regular season with averages of 13.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, and an index rating of 16. After six games this season, he stands at 9.5 points and a 12.3 index rating, while his rebound average has actually risen to 6.7. His two-point shooting percentage, however, dropped from around 71% to roughly 61%.

Virtus is precisely the kind of opponent against whom hiding this weakness will be difficult. Their center rotation, led by Alpha Diallo and Momo Diouf, poses a severe physical challenge. Against such players, Oturu will need to maintain aggressiveness and be far more efficient than in recent weeks. The Reds have already shown they can win without his best games, but to reach the Final Four, they will need Oturu at his absolute best.
