Pep Guardiola is set to make an emotional return to the Etihad Stadium next week to watch Manchester City face Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League. This will mark the Spanish manager's first appearance at the club's home ground since his departure at the end of last season after a decade in charge, arriving at a particularly charged moment as the club deals with the aftermath of the 115 charges scandal.

The match against the European champions, scheduled for October 14, will be City's first home game since an independent commission ruled that the club is guilty of most charges brought against it for breaching Premier League financial fair play regulations. According to the findings, City was found guilty of all charges concerning breaches committed between the 2009/10 and 2017/18 seasons. The club continues to deny the wrongdoing and has lodged an appeal against the findings.

Guardiola's Unwavering Support

Against the backdrop of the storm, Guardiola made it clear following the release of the decision that his loyalty to the club remains absolute. The 55-year-old manager published a message to supporters on social media, emphasizing that he stands behind City's owners and management.

"I want every Manchester City fan around the world to know that I am here, more than ever," he wrote. "I always have been and always will be behind my club, my owners, my chairman, Ferran Soriano, the players, the staff, and you, our unique fans. We will get through this together. I love you all."

A Legacy at the Etihad

Guardiola left City after ten years that established him as one of the most decorated managers in the club's history. During his tenure, he led the team to six English league titles, including an historic run of four consecutive championships between 2020/21 and 2023/24, as well as the club's first-ever Champions League triumph, three FA Cups, and five League Cups.
