Google Shares Drop 10% on Q3 Earnings Miss and Search Growth Slowdown
Google shares fell 10% following third-quarter financial results that showed robust cloud growth but missed net profit expectations and revealed decelerating search revenue.

Google shares dropped 10% following the release of the company's financial results for the third quarter. Despite the sharp decline, the report reveals robust underlying revenues reaching $127.6 billion, representing a 25% year-over-year increase.
The cloud computing division emerged as a major growth engine, doubling its revenues to over $30.7 billion, a staggering 103% growth. Operating income also showed strong momentum, growing 30% to $40.6 billion.
Factors Behind the Share Drop
The downward pressure on the stock stems primarily from the net profit figures, which reported earnings of $2.12 per share compared to analyst expectations of approximately $3.02. This discrepancy is largely attributed to an accounting loss of $8.2 billion to $8.7 billion on the company's investment portfolio, specifically its stake in SpaceX.
The second concern involves the core search engine business. Search revenues stood at $63.4 billion, marking a 12% growth, which fell short of analyst forecasts of roughly $65 billion and a 15% growth rate. Furthermore, search growth has decelerated over consecutive quarters, dropping from 19% in the first quarter to 17% in the second, and now down to 12%.
Cash Flow and AI Infrastructure
Investors also expressed apprehension regarding the cash flow statement, which reported a negative free cash flow of approximately $9.1 billion driven by massive capital expenditures on artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company deployed roughly $50 billion during the quarter alone.
While the 10% correction appears aggressive, the long-term outlook for the tech giant remains fundamentally solid, supported by expanding cloud operations and autonomous vehicle initiatives.
