Global stock markets experienced a downward trend amid ongoing debates surrounding AI safety, rising oil prices, and elevated Treasury yields ahead of the Federal Reserve's rate decision. On the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange, the Tel Aviv 35 Index dropped by 1.1% and the Tel Aviv 90 Index lost 1.4%, mirroring negative sentiment across international exchanges.

Sector Performance and Market Movers

Sectoral indices traded largely in negative territory, with the Energy Index leading losses by plunging roughly 3.3%. The Cleantech Index followed with a 2.5% decline, while the Insurance Index dropped 1.9%. Conversely, the Biomed Index stood out as the sole gainer, edging up by 0.5%.

Dual-listed technology and chip stocks faced strong selling pressure following negative momentum on Wall Street. Meanwhile, the US dollar strengthened against the shekel in the foreign exchange market, trading at a continuous rate of 3.0533 shekels per dollar, representing an increase of 0.42%.

"Persistent geopolitical uncertainty and fluctuating energy prices are likely to keep markets volatile in the near term as investors evaluate potential impacts on corporate earnings," noted market analysts.

Macroeconomic Indicators and Inflation

Market participants closely monitored upcoming macroeconomic releases, including Israel's Consumer Price Index for August, with forecasts predicting an increase driven by higher fuel and travel costs. Globally, attention remained centered on central bank policies, oil supply dynamics, and escalating geopolitical tensions impacting maritime trade routes.
