Gaza Hospitals Face Critical Power Shortages and Failing Generators

Doctors in Gaza hospitals warn that numerous patients' lives are in critical danger due to severe electricity blackouts and chronic shortages of spare parts for hospital generators. According to Reuters, Gaza was cut off from the power grid following Israel's military response to the October 7 massacre, after which fuel and engine oil imports were restricted.
Hospital Power Crisis and Medical Risks
Dr. Ahmed Al-Nabris, an internal medicine specialist at Nasser Hospital in Хан-Юнис, told Reuters that shortages of fuel, engine oil, and generator spare parts forced the hospital to implement rationing plans involving scheduled rolling blackouts across its buildings. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) warned last month that thousands face high risks of disease and death as restrictions impair generators, ambulances, and water pumps.
The patients are in grave danger, because every power outage puts their lives at extreme risk.
According to Dr. Al-Nabris, one of Nasser Hospital's four generators is inactive, while two others operate under extreme strain. Technicians have been forced to extend engine oil replacement intervals from 250 hours to 1,000 hours due to shortages. Meanwhile, COGAT stated that a mechanism coordinated with the international community allows monitored entry of medical supplies and fuel to prevent diversion to Хамас while assisting the civilian population.
