IDF and Border Police Seal Terror Tunnel Near Jerusalem Barrier
Israeli security forces sealed an active terror tunnel discovered near the West Bank security barrier close to the communities of Giva'on and Givat Ze'ev, northwest of Jerusalem. The tunnel entrance was concealed inside an ancient dry cistern near the Palestinian village of al-Jib.
Intelligence Operation Leads to Arrests and Sealing
Following intelligence operations and observations by Border Police forces, the tunnel was located on August 28. On Wednesday evening, combatants from the Jerusalem Envelope Border Police and the IDF sealed the underground passage. Superintendent Eliyahu Tubul, commander of the northern battalion of the Jerusalem Envelope Border Police, told Ynet that every infiltrator is treated as a potential terrorist threat, especially ahead of the upcoming Jewish holidays.
"Our operational concept in the Border Police is that anyone trying to infiltrate is the next terrorist, particularly ahead of the Tishrei holidays," said Superintendent Eliyahu Tubul.
Smuggling Industry Adapting to Strict Border Controls
Security officials noted that tunnel digging has become an alternative method for infiltrators and smugglers as strict border closures remain in place since October 7. Smugglers charge individuals between 800 and 1,200 shekels to cross into Israeli territory. Forces continue utilizing advanced surveillance technologies, including drones and patrols, to detect and thwart subterranean threats along the seam zone.
