Brigadier General Liron Betito, commander of the Gaza Division, recently spoke about the ongoing military operations and the security situation in the region. Having commanded the Givati Brigade during the October 7, 2003 attacks, Betito highlighted the strategic advancements achieved by the military.

Strategic Control and Forward Defense

According to Betito, the Gaza Division currently maintains control over 63% of the territory. The military has established nearly 40 new outposts, providing a significant operational advantage. The defense strategy relies on forward positioning, ensuring that troops are deployed ahead of civilian communities.

"The control at the crossings today is such that Hamas does not know how to bring in what it brought in the past," Betito stated.

Tunnels and Operational Freedom

The military is systematically drilling across the entire Gaza Strip to map and destroy underground infrastructure. Despite prior successes in dismantling tunnels, subterranean passages still exist. Technological tools are being utilized to scan and neutralize remaining threats, severely limiting Hamas's operational freedom.

Leadership Decimation and Community Resilience

Reflecting on the leadership structure of Hamas, Betito noted that the IDF has eliminated nearly all brigade and battalion commanders over the course of the conflict. Despite the trauma of October 7, 90% of the residents have returned to their homes in the envelope communities, showcasing remarkable resilience.
