Taiwanese Celebrities Face Health Backlash Over Extreme One-Meal Diets
Taiwanese celebrities Joe Wu-jeh and Michelle Chen faced severe backlash from health experts after revealing extreme one-meal-a-day diets.

Extreme Diet Trend in Taiwan Sparks Health Warnings
Recent television appearances by Taiwanese entertainer Joe Wu-jeh and actress Michelle Chen, revealing they adhere to an extreme one-meal-a-day diet, have triggered fierce public criticism and strong warnings from health experts.
As reported by the Taiwanese network TVBS, Wu-jeh shared that a single meal often constitutes his entire daily food intake—a pattern doctors say endangers his overall health. During a segment reviewing the team's eating habits, Joe revealed he eats only rice and two side dishes, sometimes drinking an iced vanilla latte on the way to work.
Endocrinologists and rehabilitation specialists have strongly criticized the routine, noting that such severe caloric and nutritional restriction threatens muscle mass and physical well-being.
Nutritional Deficiencies and Medical Concerns
Similar concerns arose after actress Michelle Chen described a nearly identical eating regimen on a reality show. Chen eats only dinner, containing minimal oil and salt, relying instead on two cups of coffee a day and various supplements for essential nutrients.
Senior nutritionists clarified that such an eating pattern is ineffective for weight control, emphasizing that total daily intake matters more than meal frequency. Experts warned that consuming all daily protein in one sitting overwhelms the body's absorption capacity, leading to muscle loss, severe digestive issues, and fluid imbalance.
