The luxury lifestyle ocean travel brand of the MSC Group, Explora Journeys, is launching EXPLORA III, the third ship in its growing fleet. Alongside fine dining, wellness facilities, and advanced environmental technologies, one of the ship's most anticipated highlights is located at the aft: the new Owner's Residence suite, designed by the world-renowned architect and designer Patricia Urquiola.

Urquiola, one of the most influential figures in international design, was chosen to create the ship's largest and most prestigious accommodation. This collaboration is set to continue with the upcoming EXPLORA IV, scheduled for launch in 2027.

A 315-Square-Meter Private Sanctuary

The Owner's Residence spans a total of 315 square meters, comprising 183 square meters of indoor living space and a massive 132-square-meter private terrace wrapping around the ship's aft.

The outdoor terrace features a large whirlpool, sunbeds, an outdoor dining area, a lounge overlooking the ocean, and an outdoor shower. Inside, guests will find a spacious living room with a private bar, a dining area for eight guests, a study space, and two bedrooms.

The master bedroom features a king-size bed (200x200 cm), a walk-in wardrobe, and a master bathroom clad in premium marble with double vanities, a bathtub, a separate shower, and a steam room. The second bedroom includes another king-size bed, a bathroom with heated floors, and an additional private balcony that can be closed off from the rest of the suite. In total, the residence can accommodate up to four adults and one infant.

Italian Marble, Bronze, and Designer Furniture

Urquiola opted for a warm, Mediterranean-inspired aesthetic, utilizing earth tones and neutral colors. The design incorporates bronze accents, Cipollino and Travertino marble, ribbed wood, oak parquet, and soft, tactile fabrics.

A standout architectural feature is a sculpted marble wall cladding extending nearly 90 meters from the indoor living areas out onto the terrace.

The furniture selection mirrors a high-end Milanese hotel rather than a traditional cruise ship. The suite features curated pieces from Cassina, Kettal, Moroso, Glas Italia, and others, with many items custom-designed by Urquiola herself.

Dom Pérignon, Dyson, and a Dedicated Manager

The luxury experience extends beyond the physical design. Guests of the Owner's Residence benefit from a dedicated Residence Manager, who handles unpacking and packing, laundry, private dining arrangements, itinerary planning, and shore excursions.

Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with a bottle of Dom Pérignon champagne. The suite also features a private bar customized to guest preferences, an espresso machine, Technogym fitness equipment for private in-suite workouts, a Dyson Supersonic hairdryer, and premium binoculars for use during the voyage.

Anna Nash, President of Explora Journeys, commented:

"Patricia Urquiola's work aligns perfectly with our brand vision, demonstrating how the right balance of light, texture, and form instantly evokes a sense of home and relaxation."

EXPLORA III is scheduled to sail its upcoming seasons in Northern Europe, Iceland, Greenland, and North America, before heading to Alaska in 2027. For Explora Journeys, the suite represents an ongoing effort to blur the line between luxury cruising and a private resort stay, with a view that changes daily.
