An industry executive has already compared the young star to Robert Downey Jr., who also earned a fortune thanks to "Iron Man".
Less than three weeks after its release, "Spider-Man: New Day" has already crossed the $2 billion mark at the box office, reaching eighth place on the list of the highest-grossing films of all time. At this rate, it seems it will climb even higher — perhaps even to the top spot. It is no surprise, therefore, to hear that Tom Holland is expected to rake in at least $100 million (!) for the film.

According to a report by TheWrap, the base salary of the 30-year-old British actor was $20 million, but bonuses from the film's revenue are expected to jump this amount significantly. In fact, according to a source for TheWrap, there is no ceiling to the amount Holland may earn from "Spider-Man: New Day". The star's managers and Sony studios were not quick to confirm or deny the details.
Holland's salary in the role of Spider-Man has grown over the years. For his debut appearance in "Captain America: Civil War" (2016) he received $250,000; in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017) he earned $500,000; in "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (2019) he received $4 million; and in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021) his salary was already at $10 million. The 2021 film was the last under Holland's initial contract with Sony, which was signed for six films and included, alongside the Spider-Man films, appearances in "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame".
An industry executive compared Holland to Robert Downey Jr., due to the similarity in the rise of their salaries within the superhero franchise. Downey received $500,000 for "Iron Man" (2008), but in the years that followed, his salary skyrocketed, and he earned about $50 million for "Iron Man 3" (2013), based on a base salary of $10 million plus revenue. Later, he received $10 million for a short appearance in "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017) and more than $100 million for "Avengers: Infinity War" (2018) and "Avengers: Endgame" (2019).
Zendaya, Holland's wife and his partner in the Spider-Man films, explained last month in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes why she thinks he is so suitable for the role, following Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield:
"My favorite thing about Tom's Spider-Man is how Tom handles himself as Spider-Man outside of Spider-Man. So many people connect to this character, to Peter Parker's Spider-Man. And especially young people, especially kids, and I think he just carried that weight with so much grace. He really loves the character and cares about it a lot."
Well, with a salary like that, it's hard not to care.
