Exciting News: The Host City for Eurovision 2027 Has Been Announced

After many delays, it has finally happened: Burgas is the city that will host Eurovision 2027. The final decision of the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) was delayed due to various circumstances, and now, following a battle between two central cities—the capital, Sofia, and the popular tourist coastal city of Burgas—the decision was made in favor of the latter.

Bulgaria earned the honor of hosting the song contest after Dara, the country's representative, won first place at Eurovision 2026 with the song "Bangaranga." This is the first time the country has won the contest, and therefore the first time it is serving as the host.

As previously reported, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) approved a series of changes and clarifications to the Eurovision regulations on Wednesday, which will come into effect starting with the 2027 contest. Among the notable changes: winning the contest will no longer automatically guarantee the winning country the right to host Eurovision the following year.

Under the clarified guidelines, if war, a sensitive geopolitical situation, or other circumstances significantly affect the security, safety, or stability in the winning country or the surrounding region, the EBU may request an independent security assessment. The union will consult with relevant parties to examine whether the broadcaster in the winning country is capable of hosting the contest safely. If it is determined that hosting is not possible, the EBU may choose a broadcaster in another country to take over the organization of Eurovision.
