Fraudulent medical scheme: Beilinson Hospital reports impersonation and extortion
External parties used the name of Beilinson Hospital and the identities of its staff to deceive a patient living abroad. Following an inquiry, the fraud was exposed, and a formal complaint was filed with the police.
Beilinson Hospital filed a complaint this morning at the Petah Tikva police station following suspicions of attempted fraud and the impersonation of the hospital and its staff members.
According to a statement from Beilinson, the scheme was exposed following an inquiry received at the hospital. An investigation revealed that external parties fraudulently used the name of the medical institution and the identities of staff members, promising medical treatments to a patient living abroad who was in need of care.
As part of the fraud, the impostors collected money from the patient and misled her. At this stage, no details have been provided regarding the identity of the suspects, the amount collected, the treatment promised, or the country in which the patient resides.
From the hospital, it was stated: "We trust the Israel Police to conduct a thorough investigation."
The incident occurred against the backdrop of medical tourism, where foreign citizens arrive in Israel specifically to receive medical treatment. This sector brings hundreds of millions of shekels annually to Israeli hospitals, even though medical tourists account for only a small percentage of total patient volume.
Due to high revenues and the potential involvement of intermediaries, this field has previously been at the center of controversies where payments were collected from medical tourists outside of official hospital channels.
