More than 140,000 families will receive a grant from the National Insurance Institute intended to ease the financial burden associated with preparations for the upcoming school year. Ahead of the start of the 5787 school year, which will begin in about two weeks, the National Insurance Institute will transfer tomorrow (Tuesday) the annual education grant to over 140,000 families in Israel. The grant is intended to ease the financial burden associated with preparations for the upcoming school year — from purchasing textbooks, notebooks, and backpacks, to all the equipment required for students.
This year, the National Insurance Institute will automatically transfer about 335 million shekels to the bank accounts of those eligible as part of the education grant, an increase of about 35 million shekels compared to the amount paid in 2024.
The grant from the National Insurance Institute will be paid for 197,000 children in families headed by a single parent and for 79,000 children in families with 4 or more children receiving subsistence allowances (income support, alimony, disability, old-age, or survivor benefits).
The grant amount is 1,204 shekels for each child aged 6 to 18, which, as mentioned, is paid automatically by the National Insurance Institute to the parents' bank account for children born between 1.1.2009 and 31.12.2020.
However, it is possible that there may be eligibility for the grant even for children who were not born within this date range, but are actually studying in the first grade or the twelfth grade. In these cases, an official certificate of study can be submitted to the National Insurance Institute in order to receive the grant.
The National Insurance Institute notes that if there has been a recent change in family status, such as a parent changing status to a single parent, it is worth checking the eligibility conditions and submitting a one-time application to receive the grant on the National Insurance Institute website or at a branch in the city of residence.

"The education grant is intended to ease the burden on eligible families ahead of the start of the school year and to assist them with the expenses associated with preparing for it. The grant will be transferred to most eligible recipients automatically, in order to allow parents to receive the assistance without unnecessary bureaucracy. Investing in children and their education is an investment in the future of the entire Israeli society, and we are proud to be a part of it."
